That is how I would go. I like the old Big firing pins. I have never had one fail.

I think the main thing is to have a good snug fit between the pin and the hole in the breech face regardless of the pin diameter one chooses to use.
What is the diameter of the old style black powder pins ?
I would guess also that the larger the pin diameter the more critical it would be to get it centered on he primer strike so as not to ding the edge of the primer cup in the case head. I can't remember any of the ones I have worked on that hit the primer dead center .
This is one of the deals that has to be watched closely when doing the link over adjustment. Mike D.
