Where have all the Target Rifle Matches gone? Or have they?

Post by desert deuce »

Perusing the Match Announcements above it seems individual "Target Rifle" matches are missing. I do see some lumped together.

Earlier this year it was announced that in 2022 showing up and shooting has never been more important. This includes folks that don't ordinarily shoot a particular match on a regular basis.

I would think by April 1st that the "individual" matches would be posted for May-Sept month by month as a reminder for summer planning purposes.

The purpose of the post is manifold.

First, to remind those that do not normally shoot any particular match to look on the announcements to find a match to attend.

Second, for those holding matches to make it easier for those that do not normally shoot a particular match to find one to attend "easily".

The easily because I had to do some searching around and go to a couple websites off of Shiloh Forum to obtain enough information to make a decision concerning match dates knowing full well a prospective competitor needs basic information to plan to attend a shooting event and if I have trouble finding information the relative novice might give up and not go shoot at all.

Finally, choosing to post on Shooter to Shooter may reach more readers who may not think to look on the events thread to find a match:wink:

It would be nice to have a site that lists all the various Buffalo rifle events around the country.
Broken down by type, state, etc.
Be it a yearly, monthly. BPCR,, BPTR, Gong etc
I don't think a forum format would be best tho.
I know Brent and Del have ones listed by calendar but would help to be more comprehensive.
Maybe Don could come up with something separate from the forum on his website.

DD,

Are you asking for upcoming events to be posted here in "Shooter to Shooter"?

That might draw more eyes but might also clutter up "Shooter to Shooter". If Shiloh is ok with it, then I am too.

Just trying to be absolutely clear on what you're suggesting.

I'd be interested in that too. Only a few short years to retirement and then I'll be looking to hit matches as Far East as the Mississippi River by driving, but have only a vague idea when they go off every year. Seeing it all posted up in one spot would be great.

No DT, not suggesting posting match dates, times and places on Shooter to Shooter. Not at all.

To further clarify.

The idea is to facilitate the dissemination of that information to those that may be looking or planning match attendance to find that information.

Assuming, since I had to navigate the internet to find that information that a new shooter may not do so for one reason or another and I am suggesting that matches be posted individually rather than 3-10 matches put up on one single post on the upcoming matches section of this forum.

I think the idea forwarded earlier that the individual matches in the title be labeled either silhouette, gong or target, etc would also be informative.

There used to be sites that had the schedules listed for a lot of ranges.
A lot of the links still work.

First hit on a Google search.
Don't even know where Rowen county is.

I guess I am missing something ( those that know me will say that is nothing new. ), but isn't that what the Match Scores/ Upcoming Events (emphasis being "Upcoming Events) is all about?

Or is it you believe there is just an overall decline in these shoots?

LazyM, Kurt, and others, people that are long term competitors and members of this board already know what they are interested in and where to find it. Most already maintain their own calendars and where to find information they are interested in. That is understood. Being user friendly to new shooters is important.

So when I, a long term competitor and member of this board, has to dig around on Upcoming Events and still have to leave this forum to find dates, times and places of matches I am interested in I have to wonder if we should make it "easier", easier is the controlling point I am trying patiently to make, to not only find that information on Shiloh Forum, but, encourage those posting match information to make it more comprehensive in their posts on the Upcoming Events section.

While there are many points that could be made in this vein, experience tells me making one point is difficult enough as herein proven.

Mr. Deuce,

I agree on all points made. I think we should do all things possible to entice new shooters to this venue, be it gong, paper, silhouette, plinking, etc. Personal contacts, emails, web pages, all is necessary in order to promote this sport.

Those links have ranges listed that haven’t had a match in years. I think that a guy by the name of Dan Wormer is trying to put together a website for clubs to post their schedules on Rocky Mountain BPCR. It’s open to all clubs across the country from my understanding.

I think that might get some interest back in this game if they see a match close by to dig out the single shot out of the back corner of the closet.

I could do a better job a posting match information. We have 3 long range matches a year at Camp Atterbury Indiana. October we shoot 1200 yards. I am guessing that is maybe the only place here in the states that has a 1200 yard paper match. One of a few places anyways. There are also some smaller matches near Cincinnati Ohio where they shoot 300 and 600 yards. I think they do a mix of paper and steel. We of course have our silhouette matches near Ashland Kentucky. There is a range in PA that has 1 long range match a year. It is know as Read Range or I think that what it is called.
