It was a pretty dismal match for me at Lodi this past weekend mostly in part to bullet issuses.....I think.

Shiloh LR express 32in 1-18, 45-90, JBA brass, swiss 1.5f, .060 poly, 210m, DDPP bullet .443/.451 (minor/major dia) 1.435 long, .002 paper.

I was told my bullets were coming in, "not straight", not that they were tumbling but, like they were getting ready to. This was at 900yd, I also had the same issue at 1000yd. I had no control over the bullet with sight movements. Is there something I should look at first?? I did look at my barrel and all seems well. I did clean it very well after getting home and found nothing out of the ordinary. We did not shoot a 800yd do to weather.

1.42 is about as long as an 18 twist 45 will handle beyond 800 yards. Especially if there’s a crosswind to deal with

no idea, I dont really shoot for velocity I just let the target tell me what's working or not. it shot well at 200yd. bullet weight is 519gr

We defiantly had cross wind! along with tail wind. It shot very well in my 45-100 but, maybe there was enough velocity to keep it stable?

Probably need a bit more velocity. How much powder? Most successful 45-90 shooters are running around 84 grs.

Honestly 200 yards is just a good start point, 600 and 800 usually tell the tale.

87.5gr. I know 200yd is a starting point I just didnt have the time to get out to 8,9,1000 before the match.

Yes, looks factory fresh. I even pulled the forearm off at the match to see if that was a problem...

Next Guess.................are you certain that you are resting the barrel on the null point?

to the best of my knowledge yes. I used a rawhide mallet to feel for it.

So what im going to do is make a chamber cast, and check things out in the chamber. then load up a few to shoot again at 900yd. I do have a few old GG molds laying around too, so I will cast a few of those up just to see what happens.

IMHO, bullet too long for that twist rate in those conditions at that range. Wind induced yaw coming with rotational decay. Might want to go to a slightly shorter bullet in that loading/rifle combination.

Went out Monday, had winds 11-22mph switching from tail to straight from my left. I set up at 900yd at proceeded to shoot at a man sillywet. I used exactly the same load I was using and held the steel just fine. Over the previous weekend I chucked up some bullets in the lathe and shortened them .030 and .040, I loaded those up and they shot well, maybe a bit better. So I am looking at shortening my mold (slowly!) til I get the best bullet I can for windy conditions. I have also fireformed some Starline brass and when thats clean an dry I will see how much more powder I can get in there so maybe a complete brass change from Jamison will be in my future.

Got to the range yesterday. Load again was 87.5gr of 1.5F swiss.

First shot was a bit high but thats to be expected as it had a oiled bore but the rest fell in place.
