Re: Rebarrel question.
Indeed, maybe the best is to sell the "extra" 45-70 and buy a new Shiloh 40-65 exactly like you want it

Re: Rebarrel question.
Isn't lead-time about 24-18 months? Still worth the wait.

I don't know on your lead time estimate at all. I heard several people who ordered and had a gun at around 1 year. I'd say a phone call to Shiloh was in order here. Wood supplies are holding up 77's, maybe 74's also???? might be time to see if you provide your own wood would it speed things up??? bobw

Re: Rebarrel question.
I recently got my letter about a year and a half after the order was placed. If rebarreling, I'd go with Shiloh. Their stuff works!

Runs about $600+/- from most good gunsmiths.bucksnort wrote:Any ball-park price for a 32-inch, octagonal, standard finish (matte), in .40-65?
One advantage to going with something like a Green Mountain or other quality barrel is you can go with a faster twist, should you wish. Believe Shiloh only offers a 16" twist in the 40-65.
Another option is having your original barrel lined down to 40-65. Using a quality liner, like TJ's, will result in no loss of accuracy. Generally runs about $100 less than a new barrel install.

Glenn, Shiloh also does 1:14 twist. Mine has recently started being built.

No reason to change other than the possibility of speedier service somewhere else.

Re: Rebarrel question.
What would the dimensions on a blank piece of walnut be? We've got several places here in Portland that deal in walnut, etc. Thanks.
