Chambers?

Which chamber size does Shiloh use for a .38-55? I noticed that there are two lengths, 1.125" and 2.080. Do they do both? Thanks.

We use the short one for todays modern 38-55

Can a 2.125: chamber be cut also? The reason I ask, is that I came across some .38-55 brass, and thought there was only 'one' size. After doing some reading, I found out there are two currently being used. Ed

If you messing with 38-55 brass and reamers, remember that Starline brass's wall thickness is nominal 0.0072 inches thick while Winchester's is 0.011 inches thick.

I have some of each brand of brass. Starline = .012; W-W=.011. Not a big difference.

All the Starline brass I have from years ago and still use measures 0.0072 as I have used it extensively for a number of cartridges and rifle. Maybe they have gotten wise. They certainly had no plan to produce thicker wall stuff when I and others talked to them years ago. They were producing that thin neck wall stuff for old original chambers. If they changed, that is good. You had to be careful not to drop the case because they would dent and otherwise deform.

This is a .38-55 case with the original overall length of 2.125" for use in .38-55's that are suited for longer cases (most firearms will accept this length). Wall thickness at the mouth averages .0072" which allows for use of a wider variety of bullet diameters, especially in tight chamber/large bore situations. Headstamp reads *-2.125-*-38-55"
