2022 TX Regional BPCR Big Bore Results

Post by TexasMac »

Following are the results from the 2022 TX Regional BPCR (Big Bore) silhouette match held on May 21st. The match was scheduled for two days (40 shots/day) but very similar to last year’s match the forecast indicated a high chance of rains for day two. Rather than take a chance, a show of hands by the shooters overwhelming voted to hold an additional abbreviated 20-shot 2nd match on day one after a 30 minute break.

It was a warm and muggy day with variable winds that affected the scores of some shooters on the turkeys & rams but reduced the effects of the heat & humidity a bit. 31 shooters (21 scope & 10 iron), including 9 from out of state & 3 as far away as Georgia, competed at the Yaupon Creek range near Columbus, TX. The average scores were close between the iron sight and scope shooters with the average iron sight scores edging out the scope scores by almost 2 animals, an interesting result which is contrary to many other matches but similar to last year’s TX Regional Match. Additional analysis of the age, experience & number of the shooters in each class might shed some light on the reason for the lack of disparity which is normally in favor of the scope shooters.

Two shoot-offs was required to determine the 2nd & 3rd place iron shooters and three shoot-offs were necessary to decide the 1st through 3rd place for the scope category. Unfortunately yours truly failed to capture 1st place to a better chicken shooter, reinforcing the old adage, win on the chickens & loose on the pigs. All in all it was an enjoyable match & an opportunity to shoot with some out-of-state shooters

A special thanks goes out to the companies and individuals that contributed prizes including: Ballistol USA, Brooks' Bullet Moulds, Cats Shooting Sticks, Don Claxton, DW Barnes Saddlery, DZ Arms, Forster Precision Products, Graf & Sons, Green Mountain Rifle Barrel, Lee Precision, Montana Bullet Works, Montana Vintage Arms, Schuetzen Powder Energetics (Swiss powder), Shilen Rifle, Shiloh Rifle, SPG Sales, Starline Brass, The Single Shot Exchange magazine, Treebone Carving, Wayne McLerran & Wolfe Publishing.

If you're interested in the .22 BPCR scores from the match, they'll be posted on the .22BPCRA forum & the Steel Chickens forum as soon as I get a chance.
