50-90 Shooters

Post by sparky »

I would like to know what overall length most Big Fifty Shooters
use when making their ammo. Also would like any loading info you
would like to share. Hunting and long range. Any info would be greatly
appreciated as I'm Knew to BPCR.

Thanks

It is going to depend upon which bullet you choose and the throat in your rifle, I always take a neck sized stick of brass, (size just enough to gently grasp the bullet) bell the mouth enough to start the bullet and try it in the chamber, it will be too long to start...so turn your seating die in one half turn and retry, do this until breech closes without resistance, this will give you a starting figure to work with, Good Luck1

I use my 50-90 for hunting and just a pop or two at the range. I don't get excited about LOA as I seat the bullets to cover the grease grooves.
I used the Lyman 512142 to take a buff in Nov. Bullet was 515 gr. at 1/40 with 100 gr Swiss 11/5 in RMC cases. Used a Walters wad (.032) and Fed. 215 primers. Off the bench stix I can usually hold X ring at 100 yds and stay within ten ring at 200.
I also have used the RCBS 540 grain flat nose, again seated to cover the grease, and the 450 Lyman flat nose.Hope this is useful info.
Good shooting
