In the January 1977 issue of Guns & Ammo magazine I found the following ad:

"Shiloh Products Inc. New Model 1863 Sharps Rifles and Carbines!

The world's most famous breech-loaders for the ultimate black powder experience."

The ad goes on about the quality, barrels lengths and calibre options - .45, .50 and .54.

Now, here's the hard part.......

The three bander rifle is listed at $375 and the carbine at $345!

If memory serves, I was making around $2.50 an hour at the time as a tradesman for a major utility company with a wife and kids which effectively put them beyond my reach.

Then as now, for many, they are the stuff of dreams, but where would we be without those dreams?
Some things never change.........

Things really have not changed. the $2.50 per hour is now about $16.00 per hour, an increase of about 6.4 times

The $375 x 6.4 is $2400,
About the same ratio if you ask me.

My carbine plus mould plus bullet starter in 1978 was $350.00 in Ak. courtesy of my Platoon Sgt. a real Sharps afficionado.
