Availability of Farmingdale '63 Military Rifle in 50 calibre

Post by Todd Birch »

At a local arms show today, a friend was selling a mint Farmingdale Shiloh '63 Military Rifle in .50 calibre.
It has been fired but is like new.

I don't wish to take business away from the hosts of this forum, but someone may wish to own a Farmingdale '63 right now.
I'd buy it but I have I'm delighted with.

At this same show was a New York State Militia Rolling Block in .50-70, a three bander with that huge hammer. The hammer is so high it would interfere with a cleaning rod from the breech.
The bore was excellent and I'm tempted. Anyone got a comment on these rifles?
I need an excuse to go back to the show tomorrow......

I picked up a box of 100 .54 cal. Pyrodex pellets which go into my '63 .50s chamber with a sloppy fit, 3/16" shy of the face of the block behind the bullet. The two rolled together would make up a fine cartridge with a chamber snug fit.
Gonna give 'em a go on Monday.

Todd,

Oh geez, what might be the particulars of the '63? I'm sure whatever it may be too late. The rolling block would be a "must buy" if one had the bucks in my opinion. I rarely find great deals at our gun shows but I don't go all of them.

Best, Gregg
