DK, you are right. 1,500 is about the upper limit for lead/tin alloy bullets. The rule is, the higher the velosity the harder the alloy. For higher velosities you will need an alloy with antimony in it. Many shooters use wheel weights. Some smokeless shooters are able to shoot hard lead alloy bullets up to and over 2,500 fps, though I guess I gets to be much more of a challenge over about 2,200 to keep the leading under control.

As for your bullet choice for hunting, you can use either jacketed or lead. Lead will work as well or better than jacteted - just pick a bullet design with a large flat tip. The flat tip gives great shocking power. Good hunting. TJW
