Trimming 40/65 starline brass
After fire forming I'm finding cartridge length less than 2.1. If I trim them all to the shortest 2.087 will l be creating any problems ?

I don't think so, but others here may disagree. I have done some excellent shooting with brass as short as 2.08.
Hope this helps, Cody

It depends on how you prepare your brass before loading and what you are loading for.
Most fireformed brass gets longer when full length sized.
It is possible using a brass stretching technique to stretch brass 20 thousandths or so, no problem.
I have gotten new in the box Remington Factory Brass that is 1.80" , I fireform it with cornmeal, anneal slightly, stretch it and by the way I do not size brass, I just shoot it again with cornmeal to fire form it, trim to length and load.
My experience says it is better to have brass a tad short rather than a tad long.

Yes. Why would you trim them more if they are already shorter than 2.1?

If you have one of the newer Shiloh 7°chamber end transitions then the normal 45° or the flatter of the originals then it does not make much difference if the cases are a little shorter.csshooter wrote:After fire forming I'm finding cartridge length less than 2.1. I have the standard Shiloh .40-65 chamber and use brass that is a couple of thousandths longer than 2.1" after fireforming, as I get very tiny lead rings on the case mouths if I run it any shorter.

OP-Do you do any case sizing?
Check OAL, after you size.
Chamfer the inside of the case mouth.
