Paper Patch Bullets
Probably a stupid question, but I really want to try and cast, patch, and shoot bullets from my Shiloh 45 2.1". It has a 34" barrel, and a standard chamber. Wondering how long of a bullet I can shoot, what diameter (.445 or .446), and whether a single diameter or dual? As I didn't special order this rifle, but purchased it from inventory in the days when they once in a while had rifles in stock, I am guessing it has a 1:18 twist. Just looking to try another route on the journey to the Quigley Shoot. I have talked about this for a few years now, and neither I, nor my eyes are getting any younger.

1.42 is about as long in either dual diameter or straight sided that you can count on day in and day out in an 18 twist 45-70.

Re: Paper Patch Bullets
You're welcome.
I like the 525446 M for a straight sided bullet, cast 16-1 and wrapped in either seth cole cole 55y or 55w depending on the rifles choice.

That must be a good bullet, second recommendation today! BACO is going to get more of my business.

Bore is .4581 at the muzzle, I will have to measure some fired cases when I get home.

You're absolutely correct! Thinking in terms of GG bullets. I will measure bore when I return home.

Re: Paper Patch Bullets
I think he’s asking for the inside diameter of the case mouth. The .446 bullet patched with the 55W will fit a FL sized case or you can use a DD bullet with the base dimensioned to fit the fire formed case mouth and avoid working your brass so you need to know the ID diameter of your cases.
