As for any further out, haven't tried to find/noticed any, noticed the poster board wad because it was fluorescent green, & I knew who it belonged to.
That's just for to know that that bullet made it to that @#$%^& diamond.

That is the question

Shadow those were dry patched but I've seen the same thing wet patched. I've also only ever had poly wads come back at me. I swear that often when shooting GG bullets I see the newspaper wad fluttering in the air when I see the muzzle flash go off.
Chris.
Chris I have seen the newspaper wad, on occasion. I use the comic pages, so they are colorful.
I vaguely remember noticing newspaper wads at 200m and 300m at the berms when resetting animals back when I was shooting greasers. Never thought to much about it because all shots were to call. Now that I have been shooting paper patch, I haven't noticed much except for the animals going down. The greatest variable is the shoulder of the holder and I'm not going to try and convince anyone that my way is the best way. My way works for me. The KISS principle.
I'm heading for long range now that silhouette is done here and will be paying more attention as the x ring at 300yrds is smaller than the pig at 300m.
This is just speculation but it's possible that a wad under a GG bullet could draft behind a bullet even if the base is clean, especially a thin wad.
A PP bullet is a different animal. When the patch strips so will the wad unless there is a lot of lube passing past the wad when the powder is ignited and the bullet base is not completely covered with the under fold.
I don't use any lube with my PP loads. If a patch ends up down range without lube under the base wad there is only a couple ways that the patch will ride down range and that could be from a wet bore and a bullet with a very soft alloy. When the bullet gets setback and it is slightly undersized to the bore the shank just above the base will get wrinkles and the paper gets folded into the wrinkles and get drug down range. I have bullets in my files that show this very clear where the patch is folded into the bullet base.
The reason a dog has so many friends is because he wags his tail instead of his tongue.

I wipe the base of the GG bullet, when it comes out of the lubrisizer, I wipe again before it goes into the case. First time I wipe with a red shop cloth, last time I wipe with a newspaper draped over my leg. Not until this past year, did I try a newspaper wad over my .060 Walters Wad. Personally think it's a waste of time, especially when I see countless newspaper wads fluttering in the breeze, meaning I have immediate separation, which I'm sure I had before.
