That works. I'm taking a flinter on Tuesday for the same. May stick with the Ballard though.

Well done. Nice buck and photo. It appears to be a Hawken but the patch box is similar to a Leman, can't really tell from the photo. Man you were stretching the range weren't you . It's a source of pride getting close to these guys sometimes.

Boy, I guess you ought to be proud -- of the buck and for getting so close. How about details on your rifle and load?

Bill:
It's a Lyman GP I built from their kit. Browned steel. I added the faster twist hunter barrel and put the patch box in. Lyman hooded front sight and rear peep site on the tang.
The load I use is 100 grains of Swiss 1.5 under the Lee REAL bullet cast in pure lead. You can get most of the bullets to touch each other on paper at a hundred yards. Drops 6" at a hundred and twenty five and shoots 4" high at fifty. Kicks like a mule with that curved butt plate (best to place it on your shoulder joint, not in tight) but I never felt a thing when I touched it off on that 'lope.
It was a frontal shot on the lope... I was hoping it would turn broadside but things were going to happen too fast for that luxury. About zero bloodshot meat with that slow moving bus of a slug.

Lazer: Your harvest has to be even sweeter since you put your rifle together yourself. I like the Lyman GPRs. Good barrels and good bones.
