Now that is an open invitation for further exploration.

So here is some of that further exploration I spoke of earlier in an effort to rehabilitate the brain dead on the forum.

OK, Well, at least I got the picture posted. Yes, you are seeing double.

However, this is a photograph of a five shot group fired at 800 yards on a round steel gong. (The last 3 sighters are at 12 oclock in white and painted over.)

First I got on target and then repainted. Winds were light and variable.

The first two hits at 3 oclock in the black required 2.5 minute windage correction which is shot #3 at 9 oclock in the white.

No correction for shot #4 9 oclock in black or shot #5 about 10 oclock from the white circle.

The vertical measurement of shot #2 is 7/8" below vertical and shot #5 is 4.75" above verticle.

Rifle by John King Kila, MT, 45-90 DT Chamber, DT designed $ bullet by Paul Jones, 3F Swiss, F150M primer, Krieger 16 twist, 1-16 alloy, grease groove bullet, sized .4580", home lube.

And as we all know this is a fluke, accident, etc because everyone knows these rifles wont hold less than two minutes of angle at distance much less half minute of vertical, especially when using grease groove bullets.

That is pretty good considering the handicap!!

Wind is supposed to be down to a dull roar tomorrow, so I might get to try a few more.
Gotta figure out something to do with the front aperture since it blends in with the black target at 300 yds.

Not gonna move out farther til I get a few other things tested.

What is the name of the town closest to where you shoot?

Brian, I read where there is a large number of wind turbines going in up that way. I think it said 131 in the first phase. We've been going to the same camp ground in Miles City for years. In honor of the workers putting those in they hiked their overnight rates 60% since the last time we were there. I here it's full anyway so I guess it doesn't matter. You be careful flying around those things.

Kinda eliminated a good portion of my customers in that area.

I thought that might be the case when I read it, sort of two steps backward this time. I gather the idea is to replace the output from Coalstrip, when the wind blows that is.

little breezy (18 gust to 33) but had to get in a test.
first 2 shots confirmed that the oil in the barrel doesn't matter.(first two shots on the right).
then one more before I moved 3 min left.
shot 4 was a little low, and shot 6 a touch high, but it was a prelude of things to come.

Still having problems with seeing the front aperture on the black target, so I painted it white.
not perfect because of the shade of the sight but really helped

thought I'd shoot a couple more shells to see how it worked.

3 shots in under an inch at 300 yds !!! and dead centered # 6 from the earlier group !!

Wasn't paying enough attention, but this may have been the cause of the low #4 hit on group one.

But, but, but, haven't you heard Brian? These guns will not shoot less than two minutes of angle. Even with PP!
The math challenged can figure this one out, should they choose to do so.

I almost switched to 16-1 thinking that was part of my problem, but I think I'll stick with 12.5-1 a little longer.

The `12.5 is looking good.

How much powder are you using in that 40-82, and what are you using for fouling control? Last fall I used dads and in the Aug heat it got really bad fouling. I was using a 2 felt bore pig, this year we switched to a 3 felt but, have yet to try it, maybe this weekend as it supposed to be nice n warm.

Curious Matt, do you recall the conditions as in ambient heat, humidity and wind direction?

Also, what fluid were you applying to the felts and were you chasing the bore pig with a patch, dry, damp or wet?

Were you shooting PP or GG ?
