I haven't shot my shilo MR in ages and I have lost the hunting fever for now. With scarcity of these on the market , I'm considering selling mine on GB. What price would you recommend I list it for? I have near 100 ring tail bullets (.544/475gr), a bag of Hann tubes, a mid range vernier sight, and a bullet mold and 4 cans of musket caps. The rifle has a patch box and is in perfect condition. If this is an inappropriate post, moderators please delete with my apologies.

Rather then list it on GB, list it on the North-SouthSkirmish Association site. Those guns are in demand. For the N-SSA, the tang sight would need to go but if you have the original Lawrence barrel sight, you could sell the tang sight on GB. Is the gun a NY or MT manufacture? $1400 to 1600 would be a reasonable range.

I think the scarcity of these on GB contributed to the good price.

I'm not the least bit surprised by the price you received. And yes, scarcity makes the heart grow fonder and the pocketbook get looser. I found that out when I sold my NY military carbine a while back.

I know this post is old but I just took possession of an unfired 1863 Shiloh 3-band rifle in .54 caliber. It’s a farmingdale version and is perfect as the day it was made. Back when this post started, I sold off all my firearms and I have been slowly getting back items I should have not sold. One of the first I missed was this one. I spent the last week in getting in a supply of ringtail bullets, caps, Hann tubes , original style military bullets, materials for making paper cartridges, sling and cleaning gear. Let the fun begin! So happy to have one of these back in my mini-arsenal.

There's a lesson to be learned here -- NEVER sell, only buy. :D

Well, the trouble is that most of us have to sell one rifle to get another one. It would be great if we could just get whatever we wanted without having to sell something else. I guess there are some who can do that, but, unlike the government, I don't believe in deficet spending. A lot of rifles have gone away to get what I wanted and many of them I have since regretted selling.

Agree. I have had many come and go but working on a limited few to stay now. Spent the night making paper cartridges for my ‘63 with some Richmond bullets. Tomorrow night I will be making up some for my ring tail bullets. Then off to the range to test those and primers before I settle in to “the” load I will use for hunting.

What's the name of yhe company that makes the mould for the Richmond bullet? I might give it a try, but I don't particurally care for it being outside lubricated. I've been using Lyman's 54 caliber hollow base which works well and I can cover the grease grooves when I make my cartridges. But, it isn't quite the "correct" bullet. Accurate Moulds makes a heeled bullet too that I think is pretty close to the Richmond one.

George, I don’t know. I purchased them from the company I mentioned on my thread on the cartridge making
