What was on the original "Quigley"?

Post by Texas Shooter »

To all:

I am putting an order together for a Quigley. Can someone please tell me what was on the original?

I know some of it is listed on the web page, but the smaller details are not.

Thanks ahead of time.

Regards,

It is my understanding the "Quigley" model, in 45-110, sold by Shiloh is IDENTICAL to the Rifle built for the movie.

I am not certain of barrel lenght, but a quick call to Shiloh should clear up that issue.

They may even have one on the rack ready to go.

Buy one as shown, but as a kicker, have the initials MLQ instead of your own engraved on the rifle. What an idea...........Later

I belielve I read that unless the person's real initials are "MLQ" that Shiloh does not want to put those on. I may have misunderstood something, but that is what I recall. Besides, on mine, I wanted to show off my own initials, and to me the gold "LS" within the gold oval looks great.

Other than initials, if you order the Quigley as it is spec'ed in the catalogue (or web site) and order it in .45/110, you will have a correct copy of the one (ones) Tom Selleck used in the movie.

I wanted the Quigley but I also wanted some upgrades so they had me order the Hartford (which is the base rifle for the Quigley), add on the Quigley features such as patchbox, military buttplate, etc., etc. and then added on my upgrades, and they ended up sending me the most beautiful rifle I have ever seen. I ordered mine in .45/90.

Doesn't matter what you order from Shiloh, you will be thrilled with it when you receive it. So order what you want, just the way you want it.

To All:

Thanks for the emails so far.

Does the Quigley have a polished barrel, screws? I assume NO checkering.

What about the finish, std., AA, or AAA? Brass escutcheons?

Grade of wood std. or semi fancy?

Thanks,

Texas Shooter,
Good Morning! The original Quigley that we made for the movie was a 45/110, 34" full heavy octagon, standard grade wood, patchbox, heavy antique finish on the entire rifle along with a pewter tip and hartford collar. You provide us with 3 initials that will be done in gold inlay. The rifle had no upgrades on the wood, no extra finishes. You can not have the MQ initials that we had on the original. Hope this helps.

Lucinda,
Something i always wanted to know! Towards the end of the movie, Quigley used the rifle to pull himself up to the roof - was this a 'stunt' rifle?

Hi I called and asked the same thing, and was told that there were THREE guns made for the movie. The one that was used to break out the window and pull Quigley on the roof was the throw around gun. It was not a working gun, the other two guns were sent back to shiloh to be gone over after there road tour to make sure everything was in working order and were bought by Tom S. But know one is sure what happen to the throw around gun. Tom also had Shiloh make one for him, so he own three Quigley's.

Thats the story I was told about the guns. To bad they didn't make a Quigley 2

Maybe when Mel Gibson has finished with, "The Passion of Christ", we could start a letter campaign for, "Quigley 2".

Wouldn't that be cool.

Texas Shooter, why would you want mr. Gun control Mel Gibson involved in a "Quigley 2" movie? :?:

I thought part of the reason Hollywood hates him is because he's a conservative, pro-Bush, Republican, Christian.

Maybe I'm wrong, but I thought he was one of the few, "Goodguys".

Please correct me if I'm wrong.

Texas Shooter,

Lee has some great pictures he may be able to send you. He seems to have gotten all the bells and whistles. It is a fine rifle owned by a fine guy.

Lee does have one odd option on his rifle. It only shoots North.
