Not gone through this exercise yet, but my plans are to load up some stretched cartridges with powder and a wax slug and fire away. Should give me a good indication of precisely where the chamber transitions occur.

Right now, I'm of a mind to let the 10 thou gap between case mouth and chamber transition be....I use a lot of lube so I feel that my bullets will be OK, particularly since I seat them into the lands. However, I will not be trimming brass any shorter than 2.1" for this rifle, and I ordered a Giraud case trimmer to make sure I get good trim lengths too. They were also really nice on the phone and will be setting me up for 45-60, 45-70, 45-90, and 45-100 all on the same 3 way cutter head. Yeah, the trimmer is expensive, but my time is valuable too and I would like to be as efficient as possible with mundane chores.

anyone out there have a 40 70 SS Shiloh measurement? I trim at 2.497 Ken

Mine is 2.503
