Gents,

I need to Drill and Tap my Shiloh(s) for an MVA and would like to know the distance from the front face of the 1874 action to the center of the first hole (or other location on the first base) that Shiloh drills.

Thank you,
Charles

Charles,

My Shiloh's are taped 1.125" to 1.135" to the center of the first hole.

Kurt,

Thanks, in the past my inquiries to the business' were responses of " at least an inch to the rear of the base". And being an Engineer that just was not a proper description.

Thanks again,
Charles

Charles, I am fortunate enough to own three Shiloh's all with scope bases. All are slightly different as to the rear scope base location. I found that for me the choice was not so much a set distance but if I wanted to cover the barrel cartridge stamp with the base. I didn't but that is your choice.

good to know, I have chosen the 10.34 inch spacing to avoid the lettering.

Thank you,
Charles

So to avoid the caliber markings I had to go only 1.00" from the front face to the first hole center. All happy that it went well and yes the Shiloh barrel steel is a bit tougher for tapping than some others. This was on a plain Quigley pattern rifle with out the engraving. Now I have to do the fancy 16lb gun which has me very nervous because it is a pretty nice rifle. Wish me luck.
