Just have been diagnosed with it in both eyes. Anyone else here have it, or know someone with it. What a kick it the head! Going to see a Specialist in the morning.

YOu will want to go to very light recoil rifles if you have Mac Degeneration.
That is what I did.

Something I learned from an optometrist years ago that really is supposed to help eyes beyond fifty+years old - put hot compresses (wet washcloths) over your eyes in the evening for a few minutes. It help ‘unplug’ meibomian glands, which will prevent MGD (meibomian gland disfunction), commonly called ‘dry-eye’.
Too many prescription medications can cause this.

I was told about caution shooting rifles regarding my recent Carotid Artery plugging and Surgery.
But, also, a good friend has been warned about shooting the heavy rifles. He suffers from an eye problem relating to hot weather and heavy recoil.
I think detached retina/a center vision "dark spot"
I had some years back pretty much retired my 45-70 in favor of a heavy 40-65 and using lighter bullets for that- 370 grain DDEPP. Main reason for going to the 379 grain bullet is I designed it shorter for best Long Range stability in the 16 twist 40-65. But definitely more comfy shooting it re. recoil.
Now recently I am enjoying the 38-50 Rem Hep rifle/10 twist/ 360 grain bullet --AND saving some on powder, too.

Got the diagnosis: Central Serous Retinopathy. A form of Macular Degeneration. I didn't know M.D. had more than one form. Thanks to all who replied.

My Dad has MD, he takes a vitamin called ocuvite.

It has literally stoped its progression in its tracks. According to his eye doctor. He will be 85 in July

I have it in my right eye. First diagnosed about 5 yrs ago when I noticed the vertical segment of my rifle scopes had "squiggle" to them. Dr prescribed a vitamin called Presser Vision Areds II. I check my eyes daily with a chart called an Amsler Grid, and have now been symptom free for three yrs. Areds II by Bausch & Lomb is the only clinically proven drug for the condition. There are some surgical procedures for advanced stages. So far - so -good with my condition. Certainly, a concerning condition, but very treatable if caught early on. It is important to see a qualified specialist. Best wishes, Keith

Great news, Kenny. I think that’s on the Costco shelf. I’ve been taking everything I can find in the way of eye nutrition to keep my current vision from deteriorating, and that sounds like something to add to my daily regiment.

This is something worth mentioning - Years ago a study was done to try and understand why nearly all pilots, copilots, crew members, and maintenance personnel stationed in Great Britain during WWII still had such great vision up into their seventies, and even eighties. Their conclusion came to this - they daily ate homemade bilberry preserves with their breakfast meals. This berry is not available in America to this day, only in a pill form. I asked a friends dad, who was a B-24 pilot stationed in England in WWII, if he ate this jam. He said yes, every morning. What’s your vision today? He said 20/20. He was eighty-seven years old. That was nearly fifteen years ago.
