Question:

When using an LDPE wad along with a fiber wad, does the plastic go first on the powder column or do you put the fiber wad in top of the column and then the plastic wad?

I use the poly first, taper side down, then the fiber.

I do the opposite fiber to compress with, then the poly, last my felt.

This is in my 110.

I often use HDPE in some other applications, it goes first.

Poly ldpe can budge an annealed case with heavy compression such as with olde Eynsford. Hence my using fiber first.

I do the opposite.
But, the Starline brass for my 2.125" 38-55 is very thin and I'm getting many stretched cases. Am going to segregate between the single and double-wad loads and see if the use of two wads is the problem.

Another question on wads… Walters Wads are .463 diameter (nominal). Sometimes I see watch that are missed cut. While I was at a Quigley, I bought some wards off of one of the guys there who says his quads are cut with a CNC machine. His wads only measure about .451 or .452 in diameter. That looks to me like a pistol size wad.

My practice right now is to sort out the oddball wads and just get rid of them. Has anyone noticed any difference from using wads that are slightly out of round or slightly under sized?

My last two bags of .45 .06 ldpe poly wads have about 25% culls in them, they are out of round, random dia. and ragged edges. Some are so large I can not get them in a fired case.

I buy the material, and make my own wads, HDPE, LDPE, Vegetable Fiber, cork, only wads I buy are my Felt ones.

Other than making your own i have so far had good luck with john walters Others not so mich.

Check out Circle Fly wads, good product.

I too have had problems with Walters Wads. Some are out of round and also, thickness variations of .005" -.007" . I have not had issues with Circle Fly and they offer in various diameters for the caliber you're shooting.
