So to get back on track:
1) it was built as a 45-70 stamped on bottom of barrel along with Wolfs head stamp and remarked 120. Therefore some rummy (it could have been done by Shiloh pre-Byron cause the job looks excellent) bored it out 1.15" longer.
2) I believe that as a 45-120 it has a value some $500 less than a desirable caliber.
3) Most likely go the re-bore route since it is only throwing a couple hundred down the rat hole ( and with 9 originals in 50-70 one repro would be handy for testing things).
4) If that does not pan out let Shiloh do it up proper in 40-50 BN ( of course with my luck the barrel will be out for boring when Shiloh calls to do the round barrel job).
5) I am up for other suggestions since original Business rifle came in 40-70BN then 40-70 SS it could be nice to do a 40-2.1" BN as a "resto-mod" kinda thing.

Thank you,
Charles
