They get pretty tame here.
They hang out in my stand of pines when the corn gets picked and feed on the Apples and Pears on the ground.
There are 4 more just off to the left.

Well its a nice change from looking at kangaroos Excuse my ignorance but what species of deer ?

I believe those would be White Tail while this one taken in our back yard last winter is a Mule Deer. Muley's have a heavier body and big ears. It had six
friends with it. The snow got pretty deep last year and they were looking for food. In mid-April we still had close to 4 feet outside our back door. This year none so far.

Those are White Tailed Does. They tend to get pretty large in this area. It's not uncommon for the Does to get around 200 lbs around this area and Bucks if they live long enough close to 250 lbs.
Are roos any good to eat?

Kurt, this is the biggest one I've ever seen. It measured 174.5 points after deductions for a couple non-typical spikes. I agree the coveralls are a little bit over the top but I never got shot either.

When able to compare directly, the ears certainly are different. Roo's ears.. well they are different again.. but certainly work like directional antenna ! .. Well Kurt, I've eaten kangaroo a few times and its supposed to be very lean but generally I find it too rich & gamey, others love it though. A good bovine eye fillet or a similar cut from elk... beats it hands down in my book. I havent really done an R & D on bison/buffalo steak yet..though I've had a few. I tend to load up on baby back pork ribs when Stateside as its not a mainstay commodity down here. Bit like common sense etc.

This is the largest Buck I took with the bow. He field dressed at 235 lbs but him being in Rutt he was a little strong tasting like J.B's Kangarroo

My great nephew took this really nice doe on their farm nearby during a late season Thanksgiving weekend last fall. 12 years old, and his first deer season! He took it with his dad's (my nephew) .50 caliber muzzleloader. A modern CVA inline.
They have deer in their orchard on a regular basis every fall when the apples ripen, and they sat in their barn each night waiting until that evening when they showed up again. It's a Blacktail deer and weighed around 185 lbs. his dad told me.

That's great. Something he will remember the rest of his life.

Like his father, he's been walking along on hunts for about 4 years, and has actually been responsible for others being able to harvest deer over those 4 years because he seems to just have the eye to see movement before any of his older hunting partners did!
I think this is the beginning of a very successful hunting life. He's way calmer than his dad was when he first began. We had to constantly remind his dad to slow down and not move too fast, or chance spooking game. But his dad turned out to be an excellent, safe hunter, and sure Emmett will also be.

Learning the skill of still hunting like deer moving around feeding on Acorns makes the hunt rewarding. And Emmett had the right thought telling his Dad to slow down.
Sitting in a tree or blind is an ambush. Stalking and still hunting is hunting.
