Flatsguide check the formula.

After squaring you multply by 1/2.

For 3x3 = 9 x 1/2 = 4 1/2

Basically increasing either mass or velocity results in even greater increases in kinetic energy is the point.

I started with a .32-40 in the Schuetzen game.
It never performed as well as the .32 MS or .32 RKS designed for breech seating.

Ek = 1/2 mv2

so m=1
so v=3 in my example

3x3=9

1x9 = 9

1/2 of 9 = 4 1/2

So Ek changes from 1 to 4 1/2 for using the same bullet but increasing veleocity three fold.

Regardless increasing mass or velocity will increase Ek

Increasing velocity increases Ek more than increasing in mass.

Using actual data in the formula for a rifle may be more meaningful to you than using this theoretical approach.

Everything you said is incorrect.

First, the mass is not squared. My teacher's father came up with an equation, also for Energy. E equals MC squared.
The Mass is not squared, only the Speed of light.

Second, you don't multiply by the one half.

Trust me, my teacher was Hans Albert Einstein. He taught me engineering at UC Berkeley. I've been a Professional Engineer for 52 years.
I know numbers and math well.
