Oh Lord, Won't You Give me

Post by bulldog »

A digital game spotter
My friends all use lasers,
I must get ahead

The guides all use feeders,
and solar at that
and then there's the decoys
a squacking with flap.

I ain't got no GPS,
I ain't got no laser lens.
I don't have them scentless boots
only got my muddy high shoes.

When I get to Paradise
We'll see who had the biggest lies
I shoot BP so I smell black,
Shoot simple lead.
No,not composit
exotic metals and plastic
computer designed
and NASA refined

When I miss was 'cause I goofed;
Not cause you made me
or gave me an excuse.
I either bring home the bacon
or it's oatmeal again.
Doesn't go good with Bud so...
Better go try again!

Got more than one mouth to feed;
and three of them's dogs
Believe they're rooting for me
to lay low them hogs.

So Lord won't you give me
what I already got.
I just need to find it
it's hidden a lot.

Wisdom to do right,
When to shoot,
When to not,

Keep my ears open
Keep my tongue tied
But untie my mind
to let in the truth

And if I succeed
And the mutts jump with joy
Help me give thanks.
And if I fail
Let me try again
for some times we
lose and sometimes we win
But it's how we play the game
So some wise coach once said;
we give it our effort
and give it again
so the game continues

'till trust me dear reader
Our game sure will end!

Okay, so I ain't no cowboy poet! Just thought I'd give it a try.

Thanks, guys. You're just too kind. I sure didn't expect to get positive from Elko, Home of the poets. That's like an cowboy actor gettin praise from John Wayne. I once spent 3 days off the highway fixing my car near Elko - had to replace some parts - . Near Battle Mountain. The guy at the parts store loaned me his valve puncher-out too. And thanks from a Yank in Courtland too. Great school up there I've heard. Once was Iroquois Nation country too - Guess some still is. I think I'll quit while I'm ahead on poetry and not to the consternation of some guys, I bet! Still got to do that huntin story I got waylaid on, though. Best to all!

Bulldog,

That is very good! Better get that one copyrighted so you don't see it turn up somewhere else, and the money go in a different direction.
