Sometime back I remember reading a note regarding a suggested starting point to begin loading for the 45-110. I have been unable to successfully search for and find the note again. I would sure appreciate someone pointing me in the right direction to locate the information.
Thank you.

I can give you a starting point based on what my Shiloh likes. I haven't fully tuned this load, but it does shoot well to 800 yards which is as far as I've tested it.

Norma brass.
CCI BR2 primers
93gr Swiss 1.5
0.060" LDPE wad
newsprint wad under bullet
BACO 458535M bullet, 16:1
DGL lube
3.371" OAL.

Rifle is a 14lb bull barrel Shiloh #3.

Depending on the cases you have, and the bullet your using, somewhere from 100-108 grains of Olde Eynsford 1f with RP 9 1/2 primers looks to be good in my rifle.

I probably should have included some of my available options in my question regarding loading for my 45-110.
Brass- BELL
powder-GOEX or SWISS
primers- as suggested
bullet- I have molds for, 457125-457132-Hoch 550 gr post ell-RCBS 405 gr.- RCBS PP in 500 gr.-and numerous GC 45cal molds.
Lube- SPG or DGL or Mathews
Wad- as suggested
I currently load BP for 35-55, 45-70, 50-70, 50-90 and trying to get this 45-110 to shoot better.
I truly do appreciate any suggestions as I am never to old to learn about this amazing sport of the BPCR.
Thanks again for your time.

Is your Goex the plain type, or OE?

I've had plain Goex Fg ( 100gr -105gr ) work quite well with paper patched ( to bore ) bullets done the way Orville suggests with a lube cookie. This was in a CSA 1874 in .45-110. In a 12.5 lb rifle it's a kicker, good for sitting cross sticks though.

Is your Swiss Fg or 1.5, FFg? I use 1.5 in my Shiloh, but it's a heavy rifle. The recoil is not any worse than a .45-70 in mine.

I haven't used the 457125 bullet ever, but I'd give it, or the any of the other heavier bullets a try. Mine wants a .458" bullet with a .448-.449 nose.

I would try looking up Kenny Wasserburger's posts also. I think he has mentioned some information on the 45/110.

He sure has. Kenny's shared a ton of stuff over the years on the .45-110. Not too many people have put more rounds down range in that cartridge than he has :D

If I really wanted to make that rifle shoot, I would get rid of that Bell brass right off the bat, and go from there. Shoot straight, rdnck.

Rope, you'll need some rope..
to tie yourself to the bench if you use 110 grains and a 550 bullet.
I had an original 74 in that calibre once
fun gun to shoot.
just remember the ben gay......

Loose that Bell brass, get decent brass.

FG powder Goex express or Swiss or 1.5 Olde Eynsford all minimum compression on the Swiss, .380 on the Goex.

WLR or Federal 210 primers.

540 gr PP bullet Money

Or 525 gr mono groove NASA bullet

Used 110.8 grs of FG express, in 2006, and 2013. Seemed to do alright At Raton to 1000 yards

Proper fouling control, wipe.....period.

Why is the 45-110 BELL brass considered to be sub-standard. What do you suggest as better brass.

I'll bet the pros will say Norma. Let's see what their comment is.

The Bell brass is way to thick in the neck. You will fight it till you finally throw it out and start over. With a .458 or .459 greaser you will have issues getting rounds to chamber properly if at all. I use the stretched BA 2.6 brass in mine and have for years without any issues. Of course I'm not one of the previously mentioned "professionals".

Best load I had ever had for mine was a lot of regular Goex 1F that I have long since used up that was exactly 110 grains. The chrono numbers with it were almost unbelievable. When working up a new load I will very seldom go lower than 102 grains for a starting load and usually find that the best loads fall in the 104 to 110 grain range. Of course keep in mind I only use regular Goex 1F and it likes a lot of compression.

I'm certainly not a "pro" but have been shooting the .45 2 7/8" for about 28 years now and have found that Norma basic brass is my favorite for this cartridge. On one of my rifles the chamber is a little long, so I'm able to trim the brass to fit my chamber. The one thing that seems to be important for Norma brass to be accurate is uniforming the primer pocket to proper depth and flash hole reaming/deburring. Annealing is a good idea also. Fg or swiss 1.5 seems to work best for me as well as a thicker vegetable wad in the .060" thickness. My best load is 92 gr. Swiss 1.5 with .080 compression shooting a 546 gr. GG bullet. My barrel is 34" so I have to wipe in between shots to keep fouling under control. Give Norma a try, I think you'll be happy with the results. Hope this helps.
Dennis
